So, What Is Moringa Anyway?
Moringa oleifera is a tree native to India.
While native to the Indian subcontinent, moringa is commonly grown in other semiarid, subtropical, and tropical parts of the world, according to Wikipedia.
It has long been heralded for its positive effects on the body’s health and ability to combat certain diseases.
Moringa for natural hair may come from various parts of the plant.
The leaves, seeds, and roots can all be utilized in products for natural hair care.
Moringa benefits for natural hair include a versatility not often seen with other ingredients.
However, we are just beginning . . . it’s time to move on to moringa’s uses in natural hair care.
Moringa and Its Use in Natural Hair Care
Topical application or drinking moringa tea presents a widely common use with regards to natural hair.
Moringa tea comes from brewing its leaves.
Individuals can consume the tea and receive beneficial gains for the whole body.
Alternatively, the tea can be applied to the scalp topically, targeting the hair.
You can also take both avenues to give extra intensity to your efforts to reap moringa benefits for natural hair.
Another popular use of moringa consists of oil treatments.
Moringa oil is usually commercially derived from the seeds of moringa trees.
However, you can also infuse oils of your choosing with moringa leaves or powder.
These oils can then be used as scalp massage oils or to perform hot oil treatments on the hair.
Some individuals may also choose to use moringa-containing oils in their moisture sealing routine.
Moringa can also be incorporated into hair masks.
Moringa powder, derived from the tree’s leaves and roots, proves easy to add to just about any treatment mask for natural hair.
The benefits of moringa, which we will cover in more detail momentarily, turn masks into powerful nourishing treatment for the hair.
Moringa can complement the goal of the treatment whether it be adding moisture, providing protein, or detoxifying.
Additionally, you don’t have to worry about offending your nose with moringa and its slight natural woody smell.
What Are the Major Moringa Benefits for Natural Hair?
When people refer to moringa as a superfood or power ingredient, they aren’t pulling your leg.
According to WebMD, moringa contains lots of Vitamin C and other antioxidants.
Moreover, the plant also serves as a useful source of amino acids.
It also possesses several vital minerals to support the body’s normal functioning.
Medical News Today states that moringa may succeed in resolving skin infections and sores.
This is probably due to moringa’s wonderful antimicrobial properties.
Okay . . . but how do all of these moringa benefits for natural hair help with health and growth?
Well, let’s start at the top.
Antioxidants like Vitamin C and others help to fight free radicals, which can cause damage to hair and scalp.
The body uses amino acids to build proteins, including keratin, the protein used to make hair.
The minerals found in moringa provide nutritional support for hair synthesis and other bodily processes important to new hair growth.
Moringa’s antimicrobial properties can help control microbes that left unchecked may cause scalp and follicle issues.
These issues could in the end retard or even prevent healthy hair growth.

Moringa and Rosemary Tea Rinse
Ingredients
- 4 tsp Fresh Rosemary leaves
- 2 teabags of Moringa leaves (I like Organic Moringa Tea Bags for ease of use)
- 12 oz filtered or distilled water
Instructions
- Heat 12 oz of water to a rolling boil and remove from heat.
- Place fresh rosemary and moringa teabags into the heated water.
- Cover and allow to steep and cool.
- Remove the leaves and tea bags and pour cooled tea into an applicator bottle.
- Start the application on clean, damp hair.
- Using the applicator tip, direct the tea down to the scalp, massaging it in.
- Once the entire scalp has been saturated, use the remaining tea to saturate the hair strands, focusing attention on the ends.
- Cover with a plastic processing cap and let sit on the hair for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with cool to lukewarm water.
Pro Tip: Apply your tea rinses under deep conditioning treatments and allow both to process together.
